North-Eastern Administrative Okrug

Districts: Alexeyevsky, Altufyevsky, Babushkinsky, Bibirevo, Butyrsky, Lianozovo, Losinoostrovsky, Marfino, Maryina Roshcha, Ostankinsky, Otradnoye, Rostokino, Sviblovo, Severnoye Medvedkovo, Severny, Yuzhnoye Medvedkovo, Yaroslavsky —  17 districts.

Area: 106.7 square kilometers (9.4%  of the total area of Moscow).

Population: 1,108.2m  people (12.4%  of the total population of Moscow).

Manufacturing. The okrug currently has 113 enterprises. Among the most developed industries are mechanical engineering — primarily machine- and instrument engineering (the Znamya plant) — as well as wood processing, food processing (Ostankinsky milk factory, Ostankinsky meat processing plant), light and print industry, manufacturing, construction materials production (Beskudnikosvky Construction Materials Plant No. 1).

The okrug hosts experimental plants and pilot productions, with more than 50 design and scientific research institutes and enterprises. The  most prominent enterprises include Research-Production Enterprise Kvant, Moscow Electromechanical and Repair Plant, All-Russian Railway Research Insitute, Impuls, Losinoostrovsky electrotechnical plant, Ostankinsky meat processing plant, The  Research Institute for Automatics, and Research Institute of Precision Instruments. It also hosts the Ostankino television center and Ostankino Tower, Ostankino Television technical center, and the Main Center for Radio and TV Broadcast.

Consumer market and services. The North-Eastern Administrative Okrug is home to more than 200 enterprises, including such popular retail chains as Pyaterochka, Kopeyka, Patterson, Ramstore, and Perekrestok, among others.

More than 270 companies and enterprises of all forms of business ownership (including the Severny and Yaroslavsky markets) are located in the okrug. At the same time, the population is served by more than 630 public catering and 430 public service providers. The okrug also boasts 80 healthcare institutions, including the Botkin Municipal Hospital, and Sklifosovsky Research Institute of First Aid.

Arts and sports. Nearly 80 universities are located in the okrug. Among some of the most prominent ones are the Moscow Institute of Linguistincs, Moscow Academy of Entrepreneurship, Interior Ministry’s Academy of Economic Safety, Moscow State University Of Civil Engineering (MGSU), Military Financial and Economic University, Moscow State Technological University Stankin, Moscow Suvorov Military School, and the Russian State University of Innovations, to name just a few.

Among the administrative okrug’s most prominent cultural attractions are the Central Academic Theater of the Russian Army, Grandpa Durov’s Nook Theater, Satirikon, Moscow State Historical and Ethnographic Theater, Spesivtsev Moscow Youth Theater, Central Museum of the Armed Forces, the Ostankino Museum and Estate, Konstantin Vasilyev art museum and sculpture garden, and Moscow State Musical Folklore Theater.

Among the okrug’s more than 20 major sports facilities is the Olimpiysky sports complex; 4 stadiums, including Iskra and Lokomotiv; the Sports and Healthcenters Otradnoye, Kirovsky, and Orbita; and the tennis center Lianozovo, among others.

The North-Eastern Administrative Okrug features famous historical, cultural, and architectural monuments, including the Ostankino Museum and Estate, Rostokino Aqueduct, 19th century residential construction on 14 Prospekt Mira, Tikhvin Church (built in 1682), and Moscow Cathedral Mosque.

The largest cultural and entertainment facilities of the city are the All-Russian Exhibition Center (VVC), the Main Moscow Botanical Garden of Academy of Sciencies, and Ostankino Park, to name just a few.

Tourists are welcome to enjoy the hotel complexes of Kosmos and Ostankino, among others.
