Manufacturing. Zelenograd boasts huge scientific, technological, and intellectual potential. The town itself is a special technological development economic zone (this pertains especially to the territories of Alabushevo and the Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology’s Technological Village). Zelenograd’s research and production complex is made up of over 50 scientific organizations and industrial enterprises (Mikron, Angstrem, etc.) involved in the development and production of a wide range of microelectronics products, from materials for electronic engineering equipment to microelectronic devices and apparatus, as well as scientific organizations carrying out fundamental research in prospective microelectronics fields.
Consumer market and services. A total of 89 trade, food, and public service companies operate in the Zelenograd Administrative Okrug. Major retail chains, such as Perekrestok, Kopeyka, Pyaterochka, Kvartal, and Detsky Mir, are enjoying consistent growth.
Healthcare services are provided by 25 different medical institutions, while 10 target integrated preventive medical examination programs that have been developed and approved in the region for the following top-priority groups: health assessments of children, young adults, and adults; provision of oncological treatment; early detection of tuberculosis, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases; mother and child care; and rehabilitation programs for disabled children, among other things.
Arts and sports. A single educational space has been formed in Zelenograd to include, among other things, institutions providing extracurricular programs, a centre for psychological, medical, and social monitoring, and a centre for psychological and pedagogical rehabilitation and adjustment. Five schools in the okrug hold the status of a “health school.”
Zelenograd’s pivotal higher-education institution is the Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology (MIET), while there is also the Moscow State Institute of Business Administration, and the Institute of International Business Education. An extensive network of art and cultural institutions takes care of organizing the various leisure activities of Zelenograd’s residents, including the town’s first professional Vedogon Theatre.
Holding annual sports and wellness events in Zelenograd has become a major tradition, including the Zelenograd open winter motocross, the Zelenograd veteran volleyball tournament (CIS), the Vesenniye Lastochki Zelenograd artistic gymnastics tournament (CIS), the Prefect’s Cup sport parachuting competition, the Jeep Trial 2003 SUV rally, and a phase of the Five Moscow Rings bicycle race (the Zelenograd ring), among others.
